Ankle Western Boots

It is frankly impossible to separate some women from their cowboy boots.  Other women are the same way about their favorite pairs of shoes.  Those women who love both are often a little torn.  It’s not like they can wear one of each, after all.  There is a compromise – the ankle western boot, which brings boot and shoe together into a harmonious whole.  Cowgirls in Wyoming, city girls from Chicago and women just about anywhere else will find the ankle western boot the perfect footwear for a variety of reasons.  They look spectacular and are good for a number of great practical purposes as well.

You can find a good pair of ankle boots in a dizzying array of colors and styles, so you can get something that just looks like a short cowboy boot or something that is a little different.  There are certainly aspects that some may see as advantages that a short boot has compared to a full boot.  One of these is the temperature difference.  In hot weather, a short boot is definitely cooler than a long one.  It is also easier to find a good fit with a short boot, since not every woman’s calf fits comfortably into the narrow shaft of a full boot.  Women with thin calves might find a full boot slouches too much to fit well.  A good ankle western boot will fit well, no matter what size calf you might have.

The ankle western boot isn’t for every occasion, however.  Some competitions have rules that disallow ankle boots.  In situations where you need a lot of ankle support, an ankle boot may not be strong enough to serve your needs.  If you are riding through thorny brush or on some unfamiliar trail, a short shaft isn’t as protective as a long one, leaving you vulnerable to thorns or even snakes.  During those times when protection is more important than style, leave your ankle boots at home and wear longer boots and/or jeans.  In situations such as those above, the ankle western boot is simply too close to a shoe to be entirely safe.

The ankle western boot is a style choice, not necessarily a work boot.  If you are in the stable working with a young and fractious horse, you will definitely want stronger boots.  But when the day’s work is done, it’s time to put on the ankle boots and get away from the ranch for a night on the town.  They may not be suitable for training horses, but for dancing, these boots are superb.  Wear them to a western-themed wedding or other events where you can dress up a little.  If your work isn’t somewhere that needs a long boot, a western ankle boot is great for those women who don’t want to wear heels for whatever reason.  The wide choices available for both style and color make the western ankle boot a wonderful choice for so many different events.  They transition seamlessly between a casual jeans and tee shirt look to something dressier without skipping a beat.
